Hey y'all! I know what you're probably thinking...Autumn? Exercising? HA. If you would have told me that this time last year I probably would have thought the same thing, but as of recently I have had this strange desire to get active again.
For some background, I was a cheerleader for 12 years prior to college; therefore, my exercise was built into my daily routine, and I never had to give any thought to it. But once I went to college my body was in for quite the shock. I simply didn't know how to workout in an unstructured environment, and the school's recreational center intimidated me to say the least (and maybe I'm a tad lazy too, but who isn't?!).
This spring I decided my exercise hiatus had to come to an end, and if I wasn't going to build up the courage to go to the gym I could at least squeeze in a quick workout at home! I then wrote down a ton of exercises I remembered doing when I was a cheerleader and compiled them into a 5 day workout, a different one for each day of the week with two rest days.
Today I'll be sharing with y'all part one of the workout I have been trying to consistently implement into my weekly routine, and it requires no equipment besides the optional free weights and ankle weights, making it super easy to do at home!
THE WORKOUT:
- 30 squats
- 15 jump squats (+ ankle weights)
- 15 leg lifts on all fours (each side + ankle weights)
- 30 plank jacks
- Ab circuit: 30 crunches, 15 jackknives, 20 russian twists, 20 bicycles, 15 leg raises, 20 flutter kicks
- 15 frog jumps (+ ankle weights)
- 25 split squats
- 15 alternating jump lunges (+ ankle weights)
- 25 bicep curls
- 15 alternating shoulder raises
I do this workout two times through, and it typically takes me around half an hour!
Also, I recently overcame my fear of gyms so if I'm feeling really motivated I'll run half a mile and spend five minutes on the stair stepper as well! I'll be sharing the next four days of my weekly workout on Wednesdays so be on the lookout for that, and let's get fit together this summer!
One more thing! I can't end this post without talking about the adorable leggings I'm wearing in the photo above from FitWear Boutique. If you're a KC girl like me, you have to check FitWear out because they have the cutest and comfiest athleisure clothes I've ever worn!
